Schools Program

The Football Journeys Schools Programme is a 16-week accredited youth leadership program for Year 9 students (50/50 gender balance, open to all, and especially beneficial for those facing learning barriers, new to school, struggling socially, or disengaged). Using film and football, the program brings diverse communities together, fostering shared experiences and breaking down stereotypes.

A key highlight of the program is a visit to another school in a different borough, providing students with a unique opportunity to connect with peers and experience a new environment. Through weekly structured activities, including filmmaking and football, participants explore their own identities, challenge perceptions, and develop confidence, communication, and leadership skills with the support of coaches. Playing football on each other's home grounds and sharing stories makes new places accessible and celebrates commonalities.

Through completing our programme participants:

  • Achieve a nationally recognised Open College Network qualification in Youth Leadership (equivalent to half a GCSE).

  • Develop positive attitudes, confidence, learning and self-esteem.

  • Improve skills in leadership, teamwork and communication.

  • Build positive relationships with peers from different communities and backgrounds.
