Impact.

Football Journeys is a proven model, building connections between diverse communities and supporting young people to develop leadership skills.

In 2022-23, 138 young people took part in FJ activities. Through collecting baseline data and feedback from young people who completed the programme and teachers from our partner schools we found:

  • 72% of young people improved in confidence and self-esteem

  • 88% of young people demonstrated improved team working skills

  • 83% of young people demonstrated improved communication skills

  • 75% of young people demonstrated improved leadership skills

  • 65% of young people said they felt more positive about their community

  • 70% of young people said they were more open minded to views of people different to them

  • 71% of young people said they now considered the feelings of others more

  • 70% of young people said they improved their creative skills (film-making, photography, storytelling)

  • 111 of young people achieved Level 1 National Open College Network qualifications in Active Citizens & Leadership (equivalent to half a GCSE)

By the end of Football Journeys’ intervention, young people address and overcome negative stereotypes, are open to interacting with people from different communities and have gained confidence and new skills.
