What We Do.
What We Do.
Our work is based around experiential learning, allowing participants to discover and gain new skills and networks while encouraging and expanding beyond their comfort zones. Creating an inclusive space to share and tell their stories and develop their leadership styles.
Using story-telling and football activities as unifying tools, participants take part in our weekly programme of structured activities to learn about and value their own identity, and challenge their perceptions of others. Working with our coaches, they increase confidence, communication and leadership skills.
Schools Programme
The Football Journeys Schools Programme is an accredited youth leadership programme delivered to year 9 students. We use the love of football and the language of film to bring together young people from different communities.
Through completing our programme participants:
Achieve a nationally recognised Open College Network qualification in Youth Leadership (equivalent to half a GCSE).
Develop positive attitudes, confidence, learning and self-esteem.
Improve skills in leadership, teamwork and communication.
Build positive relationships with peers from different communities and backgrounds.
"We worked with Football Journeys to help develop the communication skills, confidence and teamwork for a group of year 9 students. This has been an excellent decision to use them and I have noticed a massive positive change in the attitude and character of these students. FJ are ultra-reliable, forward thinking and creative.”
— Mr L Weir, Head of PE, Hatch End High School
Ambassadors Programme
Delivered with young people aged between 14 - 18 years old, Football Journeys Ambassadors is our legacy programme building deeper relationships between young people across our different school partners and boroughs. Taking part in the Ambassadors programme equips young people with a unique mix of practical and human skills that improve future employability and further education prospects.
Our Ambassadors have worked together to develop a structure for the programme that reflects the direction they want to take and the types of support and experiences that they find most useful.
This youth-led process has resulted in four key programme themes:
Comfort & Stretch Zone – providing experiences for personal growth
Up-Skilling – leadership qualifications and employability skill-building opportunities
Team Builders – strengthening relationships and having fun
FJ Champions – opportunities to represent FJ in a public forum
“The Ambassador Programme has been a huge catalyst for me, almost as if I was a totally different person. Through the exchanges I met new people and gained confidence and it allowed me to carry out activities that have benefited my community.”
- FJ Ambassador from Brent, London
